Scratch Me! I must be dreaming

Quick post about some cool scratch games my Y8 learners have made. See it all on the YouTube video below. Recorded with SnagIt from TechSmith.

Props to the young people spending far more than the 30 minutes homework they are allocated to ICT each week to develop awesome games! Now I have to work out where scratch fits into the new curriculum without discrete ICT lessons. First idea is the music department where they will create animations or games and then compose their own music to accompany them. Any other great ideas out there?

Loving those games! I’m a student teacher doing a KS 2/3 ICT course and Scratch is what we are focusing on in our training. The music idea is good. It can also be linked to English to create interactive stories, and history to create an animation to show a set event in time. These are just 2 of the ideas. The possibilities are endless!

They are good ideas Luke. Was keeping animations ideas to domo.goanimate or xtranormal but Scratch would do the job too. Good luck with your training. Clearly it’s off to a good start. 🙂

Tell your SLT to wake up and smell the roses ICT/Digital Litteracy/Computing should still be discrete; the English and Maths Department still deliver Literacy and Numeracy don”t they

  3. Glad to see that you have taken on board all my suggestions :o) This is an awesome video . I have emailed my students to see if they want me to do something similar. The bar has been raised very high though. Speak soon…..

Is that all done in the browser Gid? I knew MIT were working on a browser version of Scratch which is similar to AppInventor or AppMaker or something like that. When I tried installing Google version at school the technicians couldn’t get it working because of the command line stuff. If this is in the browser then we could make progress. Been trying recently. No conclusions yet.

Hi Andrew. The video worked on my phone. Pinged up in YouTube app. Could you try it again for me please?
      Thanks, Dai
